The location of an office can vary drastically depending on the needs of your business. From large office blocks, to shared office spaces, or even home offices – there are a multitude of options for creating your perfect office space in 2024. But how does the location of an office help to determine its use? Different office types are designed to cater for the varying needs of the companies and individuals using the office space. Depending on the type of company, the demands from an office space changes. This can depend on a multitude of factors, including: how much time is spent in the office? Is it the type of business that needs to see clients face to face? Can the users of the office drive, or does it need to have access to public transport? How much space does the company need?

So, why does location determine so much about an office?

It is always important for a company or business to have a strong online presence, one where customers can easily recognise the brand to enhance the company image. However, the importance of a good physical presence should not be underestimated. Having an office space which is clearly dedicated to your company and advertised well shows potential clients where you are located and that you are a legitimate company. Moreover, for a company which needs to be able to see clients face to face, accessibility is a huge factor in the success of the company. If the office space is difficult to access, for example it may be too far from any public transport, or may not have a car park, clients are less likely to choose to use the company for fear of not being able to get there. On the other hand, having an office space which is easily accessible for clients may boost the demand for your company out of convenience. Having an easily reachable office space does not have to mean having an office in the city centre, it can mean accessible on a smaller scale such as having an easily signposted office and being close to a bus stop or other public transport. Alternatively, if your company is not one that needs to host clients within an office, then there are a broader range of options for office spaces. It is all down to the nature of the individual company and what the prime location is to help their business.

For example, the offices at Unit 2 Bankside are in an excellent location for any business. Unit 2 Bankside is located in a quiet business focused area, therefore companies who work online will not be disturbed by any noise pollution. However, it is also within walking distance of one of the most well-known buildings in the Northeast, the Metrocentre. The benefits to having an office near to a very well-known area is that everyone will have some knowledge on the area in which your office is based and won’t have any trouble locating it. Furthermore, the public transport available to anyone travelling to the area is very easily accessed within a ten minute walk, including a bus station and a train station. The trains run every 15 minutes straight into the city centre, meaning that both clients and staff will have no problem getting into the office. There are also car parking spaces available for customers or staff, making it a highly accessible area. Moreover, 2 Bankside has access to the excellent amenities surrounding the office building such as the gym, cafes, and the many options the Metrocentre has to offer including a cinema, shops, and restaurants. So, whatever your business needs, 2 Bankside can offer it.

The location of an office is also linked to the happiness of employees. While this may sound as though they are not directly linked, it is important to note that not being able to access the office easily, or not any amenities near to the office may deter possible employees from even applying for the job role. Employee happiness is a key factor in the long-term success of a company, the happiness of staff has a direct correlation to the performance of a company. So, in order to attract and keep good quality and happy employees, the office location for your company must be chosen very carefully. If an office is easy to get to and in an area where people would want to work in, there will be more people wanting to work for the company in that office as it is convenient for them. Having a good quality office is also a way of boosting employee happiness and having things easily accessible from the office such as food places, shops, and public transport make an office more attractive to potential employees.

Overall, location of an office is a hugely important thing for a company and a big decision to make when picking an office for your business. From enhancing your company image for potential clients, to making sure the office is in a suitable location for your employees, the location of an office can determine the success of a company. While it is true that every company has different needs that their office needs to meet, it is true for all businesses that they will benefit from being in a well-connected and convenient area for both clients and staff.
